Freaky Stories was an animated TV show about urban myths. You remember these stories; they always happened to a friend of a friend: the dog from Mexico, the vanishing hitchhiker, the kentucky-fried mouse.
In 1997, Mackerel was hired by the Microsoft Network to create six interactive episodes of Freaky Stories. We worked with Freaky Stories creator Steve Schnier, to adapt TV scripts for the interactive screen.
We had a riot working with Steve on these episodes. Each story was told in about 8 to 10 frames, and each frame was packed with point-and-click sight-gags. On the technical side, we used every trick in the book to make these episodes work for the dial-up modem speeds that were prevalent in those days. Freaky Stories ran on MSN Canada throughout 1997 and ’98.
